Our latest in person Money Matters training day took place at Flourish House on 10 October. The session covered a range of topics in relation to giving, funding and church finances, with a special focus on ‘Impact and invitation: engaging your community’.

We were delighted to see around 25people join us for a day, which included lots of opportunity for discussion, equipping parishes with practical tools, resources and workshop-style activities focused upon helping them to inform, inspire and invite members of their community to give time, talent and treasure in support of their local church.

We received some wonderful feedback from attendees, and hope their experience inspires you to join us for future events. Comments included:

“A totally brilliant day for me and superbly presented!”

“I went away both with new ideas – my primary objective – but also with a deep thinking task to get my head into about the mix between money and time and how that all goes into a mission strategy at one level, a pitch for cash at another level and how that fits with a church growth strategy.”

“Thank you very much for your time and support that you have given with today’s training. It has been a very helpful, encouraging and informative day. We both feel we can move forward using your suggestions.”

And Diocesan Head of Finance and Operations Matthew Pinnock said,

“It was great to see representation from across our diocese, with individuals in many different roles including Treasurers, Churchwarden and Incumbents attending. We came together to consider how our churches can develop an infectious generous giving culture, removing barriers to making the invitation and encouraging both practical and financial support from local of communities. The engagement and discussions were incredibly productive, and we encourage all parishes and benefices to join us at future in person and lunch time drop-in Zoom sessions, as the benefits of sharing inspiring stories and plans from across our diocese are clear from the feedback we’ve received.”

There are no further in person Money Matters sessions this year, although an online mid-week Money Matters chat will take place on Wednesday 4th November between 12:30pm and 1.30pm. This is an opportunity to network with others involved in managing church finances, share any success stories or challenges and ask questions of the Finance and Giving and Funding Teams.  You can register to attend here.

Finally, if you are new to the treasurer role in your parish, you are warmly invited to attend our PCC New Treasurer Training Day is on 14 November at Flourish House.  This half day event is designed to provide you with the practical knowledge, guidance and confidence to enable you to carry out your role. You will have the opportunity to ask questions of the Finance team, share experiences, and meet other new PCC treasurers. Register here.
