The office of churchwarden is a vital and ancient part of the Church of England. As an officer of the bishop and a key lay representative in the parish, the churchwarden both represents the laity and cooperates with the incumbent.
Churchwardens generally liaise with their archdeacon’s office over matters to do with church life, governance, buildings and worship.
