More than 100 attend the Rural Forum

More than 100 people gathered at Bagley Baptist Church, in Wedmore for this year’s the Rural Forum. Bath and Wells Deanery and Parish Development Adviser (Rural), Rob Walrond, said of the day, “The desire and passion to serve God revealed itself in really creative ways.”

The Forum offered opportunities to share examples of church and community partnerships, and opportunities to discuss, question and share stories: Revd Richard Tweedy shared how he had been “experimenting with ideas based on a passion.” Which resulted an exhibition of wildlife photography held in Shapwick Church. Revd Caroline Walker talked about her community’s response to Ukraine – giving and receiving hospitality and the blessing that has been. She said, “It has been a gift to us and helped us come together.”

During the day there were a number of of guest speakers. Simon Mattholie from Rural Ministries discussed the question, “What next for the rural church? “He urged those gathered to “Speak encouraging words to one another. Build up hope so you’ll all be together in this, no one is left out, no one left behind.” He went on to say, “I know you’re already doing this; just keep going.” Tim Gibson, also one of the guest speakers, encouraged people, “To go out to love and serve the Lord.  And to understand people’s deep desire to belong somewhere.” He said, “Our keeping the faith is also about sharing.”

Rob Walrond described the day as “Brilliant. There was a lot of encouragement, a wonderful variety of examples shared of how people are connecting with their communities, which inspired and encouraged everyone.” His comments were echoed by Head of Deanery and Parish Support, Julia Hill. “This year’s Rural Forum is done but the work continues.  It’s been a day of inspiring ideas and practice. What a lot of God is out there!”
