Are you up to date with your safeguarding training? There is a range of safeguarding training sessions planned for autumn 2024, including a new, dedicated safeguarding course for chaplains.
The Revd Jacqui Keir-Bucknall is one of the safeguarding trainers. She says, “Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility and we are striving to provide the tools and support to help everyone grow our depth of knowledge, regardless of what role a person holds or the setting in which they serve.
“As a team, we were aware that the standard Safeguarding Leadership training course was very much church-focused so we have revisited that with the range of settings in which our chaplains can be found and offer that for the first time.”
The courses on offer in the autumn include a number of different safeguarding leadership training sessions (online or in person), a Train the Trainer session, for those who would like to be able to offer sessions in a local setting, and some sessions for those with PTO.
The standard Safeguarding Leadership training is undertaken in two sessions, one week apart on a Wednesday or Thursday.
Please note this course is supported by a workbook which needs to be completed and submitted one week in advance of the first session.
Before taking or renewing the course it is recommended that you revisit the Basic Awareness and Foundation courses which can be done online through the Church of England’s safeguarding training portal.
This two-session meets the National Safeguarding Team expectations and requirements for Safeguarding Leadership. However, it has been tailored specifically to support and reflect the varied contexts in which chaplains serve.

A one-session tailored course for those with PTO, who have only occasional ministry in church. This course is only available in person.
