This month, we said goodbye and thank you to Chancellor, Timothy Briden, as he stepped down from the role after 33 years of service to our diocese.

At a farewell for him, Bishop Fiona paid tribute to Chancellor Briden’s commitment and care for the churches and communities of Bath and Wells. She said, “Chancellor Briden’s thoughtful counsel, profound knowledge and care for our parishes, informed by his own deep faith, have been greatly valued. His contribution will leave a lasting legacy. We give thanks for all he has offered to the life of our diocese and wish him every blessing for the future.”

Jacqui Carreira-White, Diocesan Advisory Commission Committee (DAC) Secretary for the diocese said, “We thank Chancellor Briden for 33 years of exceptional service to the Bath and Wells DAC. His wise and thoughtful leadership has guided the Committee over many years, combining a deep respect for the law with humanity, empathy and a genuine care for our churches and the communities they serve. We are immensely grateful for his dedication and wisdom and the lasting contribution he has made to the life and work of the diocese.”

A senior barrister, Chancellor Briden is also Vicar General of the Province of Canterbury and Chancellor. He is a member of the Legal Advisory Commission of the General Synod and Chairman of the Ecclesiastical Judges Association.

Reflecting on his time with the diocese, Chancellor Briden said, “It has been a great pleasure and a privilege to serve the Diocese of Bath Wells as Chancellor, and I go away with many happy memories of the people I’ve met and the parishes whom I’ve served. A special thanks to the bishops and archdeacons, and to the Diocesan Advisory Commission Committee (DAC), with whom I worked so hard, and whose services I greatly appreciate. My good wishes and blessings to you all.”
