Healing ministry resources

There are a wealth of books and resources available to support the ministry of healing. Below are some starting suggestions. If you would like more ideas or guidance, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with the Diocesan Healing Advisory Group or the Healing Advisor. Equally, we would be delighted to hear your suggestions of good resources.

A Time to Heal Handbook: The Development of Good Practice in the Healing Ministry

This handbook is a summary of a longer Church of England Report and gives an overview of healing ministry, a framework for its development, answers to key questions and guidelines for good practice. Published by Church House Publishing.

Resources for worship

  • Common Worship has a section on Wholeness and Healing, which includes a useful theological introduction, some notes and suggested liturgies and guidance for healing.
  • Healed, Restored, Forgiven – this book by John Gunstone has liturgies, prayers and readings for the Ministry of Healing. It includes prayers and readings to use on a one-to-one basis in pastoral care and liturgies for healing services, whether as part of the Eucharist or stand-alone. Increasingly, physical health is seen in a wider context of wellbeing and liturgies are also included for the ministry of reconciliation.
