The safeguarding team provides guidance about how to recruit the right people to the right roles in parishes and in the diocese, and how to check, as far as possible that they pose no known risk.

Disclosure and Barring Services (DBS) checks

We process all Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks for the diocese.

We will shortly be recruiting a Safeguarding Co-Ordinator who will have overall responsibility for supporting you with your DBS work. In the meantime for any DBS requests or enquiries please email . A member of the Safeguarding Team will action the request or respond as soon as they can.

Training for recruiters

All those that are involved in the recruitment of both paid and volunteer roles should have completed safer recruitment training, and as a minimum at least one person on any recruitment panel will have completed the safer recruitment course. This training is available via the Church of England Safeguarding Portal.

If you require training to be delivered locally in your parish, please email the safeguarding team.
