Teaching religious and non-religious worldviews: exploring knowledge, skills and self.

We are pleased to welcome Stephen Pett as this year’s speaker.

Stephen was an RE subject leader for 14 years before joining RE Today as a national adviser. He led the development of the Understanding Christianity resource in 2016 and the new Understanding Muslims, Understanding Islam resource (2025). He led the RE Council’s Religion and Worldviews project, writing the final guidance document, the Handbook for Curriculum Writers. He has partnered with the Understanding Unbelief and Explaining Atheism research programmes to create resources on non-religious worldviews.

Plan of the day:
Session 1: Understanding positionality – what is it, why is it important?
Session 2: What is a non-religious worldview and how do we teach about it?
Session 3: Strategies for a religion and worldviews approach: opening up diversity
Session 4: Applying this to your own curriculum
