Join us in prayer

The Crown Nominations Commission (CNC) to discern a new Bishop of Bath and Wells meets on 31 January. A second meeting to interview candidates will be on 28 February and 1 March.

The Bath and Wells CNC will be chaired by the Archbishop of York. The Archbishop of Canterbury is unable to be on the CNC and in his place is the Bishop of Guildford. The six representatives from Bath and Wells elected from the  Vacancy in See Committee are: laity Jeremy Key-Pugh, Matt Orr, Nic Tall  and clergy Roger Driver, Jane Haslam, Simon Hill.  The six elected members from General Synod are: laity Linda Ali, Nick Land, Jane Patterson and clergy  John Dunnett, David Ison Judith Maltby.  In addition to these fourteen voting members, there are two non-voting members – the Prime Minister’s Secretary for Appointments  and the Archbishops’ Secretary for Appointments.

Please pray for the members of, and deliberations of, the CNC, as well as for those being considered. You may like to use one of the prayers below, 10 year old Dan's prayer, which is featured in the video below, or pray in another way of your choosing.

Heavenly Father,
Give us, we pray, a shepherd after your own heart:
refreshed by your Holy Spirit, a leader of vision, courage and compassion;
of wisdom and humility;
and give to all who must discern these gifts
the grace to perform their task,
that your kingdom may come,
and your will be done,
here and in all the world. Amen.

God of love,
lead us through this time of vacancy.
Guide all those involved in the appointment process,
Give us all ears to listen, eyes to see,
hearts to pray and minds to think,
placing the needs of others before ourselves,
always seeking your will and  your kingdom. Amen

Source, Well-spring and Living Water
Catch us up in the wild flow of the Holy Spirit
As we discern whom You are calling
To lead us through these fluid times.

May our eyes scan the edges of the horizon,
Our collective mind discern the future emerging,
Our choices bear the mark of Your foolish wisdom.
Bless and guide us as we adventure together
For the sake of the gospel and kingdom
in this watery diocese. Amen
