Archdeacon of Wells and Residentiary Canon of Wells Cathedral

We are seeking an Archdeacon of Wells who will play a key part in enabling the life, growth and mission of our parishes. They will support clergy and lay leaders and help shape the future of our diocese. The Archdeacon will also be a residentiary canon of Wells, offering 10% of their ministerial contribution to the life and worship of our cathedral.

  • Grounded in their own faith and able to relate well to all the traditions of the Church of England. 
  • Able to bring practical wisdom and creativity to support mission, collaboration, and good governance across the Archdeaconry of Wells and Wells Cathedral.
  • Skilful in and strongly supportive of safeguarding.
  • A team player, marked by honesty, integrity and wisdom.
  • Able to share in collective responsibility for the leadership of our diocese and cathedral, drawing on the strengths of all.  
  • A strategic thinker who is outward looking and gifted in spotting potential and encouraging diversity. 
  • A good listener and a natural communicator, able to speak up for our diocese, the deaneries of the Wells Archdeaconry and our parishes, schools and chaplaincies.
