Assistant Curate, Revd Nick Jerrett and Reader Nick Lewis, from Blackdown Benefice have recently returned from a memorable and enriching visit to Zambia. Their journey was marked by an overwhelming warmth and hospitality from everyone they encountered.
Nick Lewis said, “During our time Zambia we had the privilege of visiting 12 churches and 8 schools, had the joy of listening to 5 choirs, each lifting our spirits with their harmonious voices. A notable highlight was our meeting with a Zambian royal, which was a truly humbling experience.”
Our travels included 24 hours on bumpy roads, providing us with a genuine taste of the rugged beauty of the Zambian landscape. Along the way, we shared meals that included 7 whole chickens, and shook more than 1000 hand, and formed many new friendships that we will cherish forever.”
Despite the frequent power shortages, lack of a phone network, and relying on hand pumps for water, these challenges did not diminish their experience. In fact, Nick Lewis said it “Made them appreciate even more the resilience and friendliness of the Zambian people.
“Throughout our journey, we often caught glimpses of God's glory in the many new sights and sounds around us. This trip has left us happy, though exhausted, and profoundly grateful for the warmth and kindness shown to us by the people of Zambia. We would not have missed it for the world.”
We celebrate our Zambia link on Zambia Bath Wells Sunday each year. This year that celebration takes place on 7 July. Resources and prayers are available for your celebration.
