On a sunny Sunday in July, the community of St. Peter’s, Portishead gathered for the baptism of youth member Jacob. The church joined together and worshiped on the beach before heading down to the waterfront for the ceremony itself.
Jacob has been a part of St. Peter’s congregation for around two years now where he has contributed his musical talents to the church's worship team by playing the cajon and piano.
Motivated by his desire to publicly declare his faith and commitment, Jacob chose to undergo his baptism in the sea in Portishead. Despite the somewhat murky waters, he emerged from the ocean with a sense of renewal.
Jacob explained his choice of the beach by saying, "I wanted to do it like they did in the Bible. Someone else did it and I thought it sounded really cool, also being on the beach is really cool" Further describing the experience as his “religious birthday”.
Fellow church members came together to show their support and celebrated with Jacob throughout the day to mark this truly special occasion.
The open setting led to conversations with some members of the public, providing an opportunity to share their beliefs with others in the community.
