A Street Pastor from Yeovil, a lay worker and clergy spouse from North Somerset and a lead outreach worker from an estate in Bath: these were some of the people to receive a Certificate from the Director of New Worshipping Communities in Flourish House at the start of September.
Family and friends were invited to the ceremony which had at its heart a service of dedication based on the story of St Brendan the Navigator. Brendan is renowned for setting sail in a small coracle to an unknown destination carried by the wind and the direction of the Holy Spirit. During the service small groups made coracles out of whatever came to hand while the song ‘Oceans’ with its inspiring lyrics ‘Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders’ played in the background.
The Award Ceremony was held via Zoom across three dioceses and pioneers from Salisbury and Truro were commissioned by their respective bishops. The next cohort of the Certificate begins in January 2025 for anyone who is keen to learn some of the skills and approaches involved in setting out beyond church walls to start something new under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Please contact Richard Priestley richard.priestley@bathwells.anglican.org or course leader tina.hodgett@churchmissionsociety.org Taster sessions take place online on Sunday 29 September 2.30-4.30pm and Thursday 7 November 7.30 – 9.30pm. All are welcome to come and find out more.
