This Lent the Go Team invited people to join in with the Lent Cross Challenge and it was wonderful to see everyone getting involved. People from every corner of the diocese took part. People posted their photos online, schools and churches used their crosses in assemblies and services. It has been great to hear about the valuable experiences of those that took part.
Students from Combe Down Church of England Primary School shared their thoughts:
“Making the crosses made me feel calm and connected to Jude’s. It was exciting making the crosses as you knew Easter was soon.” (KS1 student)
“I felt overjoyed at the sacrifice Jesus made for me.
I found making my cross relaxing, I felt blessed.
I prayed to God and it felt like I was with Him.” (KS2 student)
Revd Lis Sparrow from St John's Church, Bridgwater said, “The Lent Cross Challenge was taken on by young and not so young, by mobile folk and not so mobile folk. By posting on Facebook each day it was great to find out what others had seen. It was a challenge but also fun and made you look more closely at your surroundings and yourself.”
Holy Trinity, Frome also got involved and Annie Herridge the children and youth worker there said “The children and congregation at Holy Trinity Frome really enjoyed taking part in the Lent Cross Challenge! It generated a spirit of fun and community as we began to look forward to seeing one another’s photos every day (especially Revd Ian's!) We soon found we were looking for, and seeing the shapes of crosses everywhere throughout the day, even in the most unexpected places! The daily Scriptures were powerful reminders to keep our focus on the cross as we approached Easter and to contemplate the power of Jesus' death and resurrection.”
