Elizabeth Renshaw-Ames is to become the new Chair of the DBF

Bath and Wells is delighted to announced that Elizabeth Renshaw-Ames is to become the new Chair of the Diocesan Board of Finance.

Elizabeth, who will take up the position in the new year is an experienced leader and Chartered Accountant with over 40 years’ experience in professional and financial services. She was, until her retirement in 2020, CEO of HSBC Bank Pension Trust (UK) Limited. 

Since 2015, Elizabeth has been a member of the Governing Body and Audit Committee of SPCK, an Anglican publishing business and charity, where she also acts as Trustee responsible for pensions. In addition, she serves as an independent Non-Executive Director of Sarasin and Partners, and in December 2024 she is completing her final term as Chair of the Management Board of Barnett Waddingham LLP, an independent professional services firm.

Welcoming Elizabeth, Bishop Michael, said, “I am thrilled to welcome Elizabeth as Chair of the DBF. I am delighted that we will be able to benefit from her wealth of wisdom and experience. The role of Chair of the DBF is a key appointment for the Diocese of Bath and Wells and with Elizabeth’s guiding hand we can build on the gifts of previous generations to underpin the ministry of the future.”

Elizabeth brings decades of boardroom experience as Chair, CEO, Charity Trustee and Governance Consultant, together with experience on the UK Leadership Team of a major consultancy. Additionally, has also served as a Treasurer in her local parish shared her admiration for those who serve at a parish level, “I have a huge respect for the work undertaken at parish level. I know how difficult and time consuming it can be.”

Commenting on her new role, Elizabeth said, “ I am excited to be joining the Diocese of Bath and Wells and look forward to making a difference, if I can, and doing that through working collaboratively with the people who are already very engaged and committed to supporting the long-term financial viability of the diocese.”
