On Saturday 24 Feb, 30 people from Bath and Wells and beyond came together to explore creativity in Christian ministry together.
People from a variety of churches in the diocese heard from Gill Sakakini, Pioneer Priest in the Arts about her experience of using the arts to share her faith, of connecting communities by creating together, and making church more accessible to all types of people through creativity and imagination.
The group were inspired by some pieces from the Methodist Modern Art collection based on parts of the Easter story, and were invited to reflect on the transition from death to life during Holy Week.
The afternoon consisted of a practical activity. Everyone got involved in creating a depiction of one of the days of Holy Week, using masking tape and lining paper. Each group created imaginative, interactive and transformable pieces, which could easily be replicated in their own worship context.
The day was really well attended and enjoyed by the participants. Ruth Slade, Go Team Adviser and co-leader of the day said ‘this was a really encouraging, creative day, with the chance to slow down and reflect, to create together, as well as be inspired by hearing from how others are being creative in their churches and communities.’
It's hoped there will be more opportunities to explore creativity in Christian ministry in the future for those who want more, and those who missed out on Saturday. Watch this space!
