Palace goes quiet for clergy days

Bridge at the Bishop's Palace Wells

Clergy from across the diocese gathered at the Bishop's Palace this week to attend the annual Archdeaconry Advent retreat days. While last year's events had to be held on line, this year they were able to enjoy an in person event. The grounds of the palace was closed over the three days to allow for moments of quiet reflection, when they weren't listening to guest speaker, the Revd Dr Isabelle Hamley.

Isabelle is Secretary for Theology and Ecumenical Relations and Theological Adviser to the House of Bishops. She spoke on the theme of 'When God walks with us: a journey in Old Testament spirituality.'

She says, "We often talk of walking with God, of being open, of following. But to walk with God, God needs to walk with us. During the clergy days we explored some of the ways in which the Old Testament encourages us to discern not just how we walk with God, but how God walks with us, and invites us to walk with him."
