Nearly all of our parishes have responded to Bishop Peter’s request last March to confirm that any safeguarding issues they were aware of had been reported to the safeguarding team.
Glenys Armstrong, Safeguarding Manager says, “We have so far had over a 95 per cent return, and recognise that in some cases, the parish may be in vacancy, or people may be ill or self-isolating so have not been able to deal with this request. While the majority of parishes have confirmed that everything had indeed been reported, we have received new information about some safeguarding cases.”
“Since July independent reviewers have checked every safeguarding case, clergy record and relevant personnel file to ensure that no safeguarding concerns have been missed, and they will be completing their reports during January. During 2021 all parish returns will be reviewed, and anything identified by the reviewers, to ensure that we have considered all the concerns that have been raised.”
If a parish return has not been received, clergy and churchwardens will have been contacted.
Safeguarding in the church community – making our churches safe for children, young people and vulnerable adults – is everyone’s responsibility. If you wish to report concerns or abuse please visit our Reporting Concerns or Abuse web page for guidance.
