When you are faced with difficult choices in a group – do you just push forward to an action and pray for God to bless it? There is another way….
The three-part course, ‘Seeking God’s Way Together’, is a collaboration between the Church Mission Society and the Diocese of Bath and Wells. It is a form of spiritual discernment for making group decisions. It is a way of putting God at the centre of the question and it allows groups to discern a way forward beyond the technical fix. It builds trust and consensus and a deeper understanding of the question. The course is led by Revd Canon Dr Nigel Rooms who is the leader of Partnership for Missional Church UK and part of Church Mission Society, he says, “What we want to do in this process is bring God into the heart of our decision making. Often, we do it the other way round, we decide what we are going to do and then we ask God to bless that.”
Seeking God’s Way Together introduces you to the practice of spiritual discernment and provides an opportunity to reflect. Sessions are deliberately spaced to give participants a chance to try out the process in between.
Reverend Mark Fuller, Portishead Parish says of the course, “It helped us move beyond simply bookending a meeting with a discussion or a prayer to listening to God throughout the process. It’s a way that communities can listen to God, to each other and to the wider community.” He shares more about his parish's experience in the video below.
Each day offers the choice of afternoon and evening sessions, held online from 1.30-3pm and again from 7-8.30pm on 16 May, 28 June, 20 September.
