Taunton Minster was one of just 15 locations across the country to host a special 'Together at Christmas' service supported by The Royal Foundation. The service was led by Revd Tobie Osmond and was attened by Bishop Michael, who concluded the event with a blessing. The choir of Trull Church of England VA Primary School had the special honour of performing Christmas hymns.
The 'Together at Christmas' service mirrored the carol service hosted by The Princess of Wales in Westminster Abbey, which emphasised the importance of supporting those experiencing hardship. The theme of the service, ‘Empathy’, was inspired by HRH Princess of Wales, who hosted a similar service simultaniously at the same time in Westminster Abbey.
Speaking after the service the Revd Tobie Osmond, Vicar Taunton Minster, commented, "It was a true honour to be able to host this event at the Minster, we loved that the Lord Lieutenant chose the Minster when they were bidding for one of the satellites services to Westminster Abbey. As we heard the story of Christmas told in readings and songs, the words of Her Royal Highness the Princess of Wales rang in our ears, reminding us to have empathy for those that need it at this time of year.
"It was a great night and wonderful to have Bishop Michael join us as well."
The Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Somerset,Ted Allen, represented the Lord-Lieutenant of Somerset, Mohammed Saddiq, at the community carol service, which included local organisations dedicated to supporting their communities in Somerset. Mr Allen said, "Somerset was selected as one of 15 regions across the UK to host this event and in Taunton there were more than 400 representatives from charities and volunteer organisations from across Somerset. It was a chance to say ‘Thank you’ for all they do to support other people at times of need."
Speaking before the service the Lord-Lieutenant of Somerset, Mohammed Saddiq, expressed: “I am delighted that so many organisations which support our communities in Somerset have been invited to participate in the service, providing an opportunity to acknowledge them and thank the generosity which is so evident in the county. It should be a joyful community celebration of Christmas celebrating empathy, love and kindness.”
