The Old Deanery formerly the base of central offices of the Diocese of Bath and Wells is to be marketed by global real estate agents Savills, from 11 March 2022.
The Grade 1 listed property was used as offices for more than six decades until 2020 when the central offices were relocated to Flourish House, a modern, purpose-built office building at Cathedral Business Park on the outskirts of Wells.
The old Deanery was initially marketed for sale in 2020 and despite interest from several prospective buyers, did not generate a proceedable offer.
Commenting on its sale, James Millard, Head of Property and Glebe for the Diocese of Bath and Wells, said: "While The Old Deanery has always been a private property, it is a much-loved part of the local community, as well as an important piece of the city’s and diocese's architectural history. Securing its future is of great importance to us and we will be working closely with Savills to ensure that any offers we receive are considered and progressed with utmost care."
The diocese has a duty of care to ensure that the proceeds from the sale benefit the mission and ministry of the Church, and all the people of Somerset, whom it serves.
