Pastoral Care Coordinator - St Monica Trust, Keynsham

Joining the Pastoral Care Team provides an exciting opportunity to actively participate in St Monica Trust’s vision to enable older people to flourish in later life. The Team, under the leadership of the Chaplain, is uniquely placed to address the pastoral, spiritual and religious needs of residents, families, and colleagues across the Trust, and to this end each site has its own part-time Pastoral Care Coordinator. 

Pastoral Care Coordinators contribute to nurturing a sense of community in the villages and they exercise a broad pastoral ministry for people of all faiths and none. They deliver and facilitate weekly acts of worship in both the care homes and retirement villages, and provide comfort and support when times are challenging, as well as creating opportunities to celebrate life in all its fullness through festivals and other special occasions.

Essential skills & experience required:

  • Active member of one of the mainstream Christian Churches, as defined by Churches Together
  • Confident leader of formal and informal acts of worship
  • Experience of working with older people, including people living with dementia, and knowledge of issues affecting people in later life
  • Experience of non-faith based pastoral care
  • Knowledge and insight into different aspects of spiritual, religious and pastoral care among diverse faith communities
  • Confident user of IT, specifically Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams, Powerpoint and Outlook
  • Full and valid driving licence and own car available

Other desirable experience is with volunteers and pastoral care that includes end of life care. Pastoral Care Coordinators are expected to forge positive, trusting relationships with residents, colleagues and local faith leaders, and at The Chocolate Quarter to maintain the Sanctuary as a spiritually accessible and welcoming space for all.

The role is for 28 hours per week – worked flexibly to include occasional evenings and some Sundays. Usual working pattern will be mid-week across 5 days, split between the retirement village and Charterhouse care home.Salary - £31,740.80 pro rata based on FTE 35 hours
