A planned approach to funding mission

One of the primary goals of the Benefice of Creech St Michael is ensuring that their finances support the mission that God is calling them into.

Rector Lee Mullen says, “It’s not just about maintaining the church but about ministering to the community with love and grace. Our mission is to serve without counting the cost, though we must also be realistic about financial responsibilities.”

After a visit from Natalie Wainwright, Giving and Funding Adviser, they managed to introduce new contactless devices into their church in time for Christmas.

Lee says, “Previously, we had smaller machines, but they were slow and inconvenient, leading to reluctance from donors. The new machines, which allow a simple tap donation, have been much more effective, particularly at large gatherings such as weddings and baptisms. We are also exploring other methods, such as QR codes for service sheets, to make giving easier.”

Their fundraising efforts extend beyond digital giving, they host a range of community events. Their harvest festival, which includes a service followed by a community lunch, is key fundraising event last year raised around £700.
Despite these efforts, challenges remain. Lee says, “Looking forward, we aim to develop a structured approach to encourage regular giving. By reaching out to parishioners and illustrating the impact of their donations, we hope to secure a more stable financial future. Clear communication will be key, people are often willing to give if they understand the necessity and purpose behind their contributions.”

“Ultimately, our efforts are supported by a dedicated team of volunteers, bakers, treasurers, and community members who recognize the importance of our mission. Their contributions ensure the church remains a welcoming and supportive space for all. By combining traditional fundraising with modern giving solutions, we strive to maintain our presence and service in the community for years to come.”
