Baptism marks the beginning of a journey with God. It is the first step in response to God’s love. It is a joyful moment when we rejoice in what God has done for us in Christ and is a journey that continues for the rest of our lives.
At the beginning of the year there were celebrations at Holy Trinity Church in Frome as a group of seven people were baptised. Revd Ian Snares, Vicar, Holy Trinity Frome says it was a fantastic moment for everyone, as the whole group made up of people from all different walks of life, were united in wanting to continue their journey of faith. He shared his story of this very special day.
"What a wonderful time we had at Holy Trinity Frome on Sunday 11 January, when seven people were baptised, or renewed their baptism vows, in our baptism pool.
Each candidate spoke of how God has transformed their lives. A number had completed Trinity’s Autumn 2025 Alpha course; others had come to know Jesus simply through reading the Bible. For each it was a momentous time, shared with friends and family in a packed church.
Scott Latham, who completed Alpha, commented:
‘After coming to Christ in September, I quickly became aware of an inward change that I had never experienced before. Something was different within me! A transformation of the heart. As time went on, I felt that the final step of this inward change was an outward declaration of my devotion to Christ through baptism. For a while, I held back slightly and struggled to fully feel like a true child of God. That changed on the 11 of January 2026. When I emerged from the water, I felt like a new creation. In that moment, an overwhelming sense of full acceptance washed over me! Something I had never known before. From that point on, I knew without doubt who I belonged to: Jesus Christ is my Lord and Saviour.’
God is truly doing a new thing in Frome. Jesus is bringing people to himself, transforming lives as he brings hope to our fearful and hurting world. This is what a Jesus-filled Frome starts to look like! It’s not too late if you’ve not been baptized. We’re planning more baptisms at our 11am service on Easter Sunday, 5th April. I’d love to chat with you if you’d like to take the plunge.
We hold all those baptised people in our prayers.
