In the run up to the November Glasgow climate change talks, COP26, the Young Christian Climate Network (YCCN) are walking 750 miles from the G7 venue in Cornwall, to the COP26 climate conference in Glasgow in November, to raise awareness of the urgent need for action not words in caring for God’s creation. The exciting news is the walk will be passing through several areas of Bath and Wells Diocese allowing everyone who wants to, to join them along the way.
The “Rise to the Moment” relay organisers say, “We are organising this Relay to COP26 to show we care about climate justice and creation care.”
The walkers plan to carry a boat with them to symbolise their campaign message, “We are all in the same storm, but not in the same boat”, referring to the way in which the most vulnerable are the worst affected by climate change.
With the pandemic it has been hard to organise this event and now they really need the support and encouragement of churches, particularly those along their route. You don't need to be based in these areas, or need prior experience to support them along the way. Anyone of any age is encouraged to join where they can. YCCN has written guidance and Regional Route Coordinators to help.
YCCN welcome people walking with them and they also need volunteers to be lead walkers, to provide accommodation, to be planners and to provide refreshments, as well to cheer them on their way. For information please visit the YCCN website where you can sign up or email:rachel.mander@hftf.org.uk if you have a specific offer to make. And do spread the word to others.
