This December, we’re inviting families and households across our diocese to join us on a special Advent journey that combines the spirit of the season with our commitment to caring for God’s creation. Written by Environment Adviser Sara Emmett in collaboration with the Go Team and Communications Team, ‘Eco Advent: a Journey to Christmas’ is a creative journey through Advent that people of all ages and stages can recreate in their own homes, beginning on 1st December.
The free to download instructions invite you to set up a stable scene on a table or suitable flat surface at home, with a spiral of 24 stars leading to it. Beginning your journey at the star furthest away from the centre, each day you’ll add something new to the spiral to represent the activity or thought for the day, using things you have to hand. The resource provides a daily Bible reading and thought that help us reflect on God’s creation, along with a prayer and an action to take, ideally with others in your household, that help us to care for it better.
Author Sara Emmett commented: “Advent is a truly special time for us all, especially for families where memories can be made, and meaning can be found which stays with us and guides us throughout our lives.”
“This year, we invite you to take part in a very special journey to the manger. One that the shepherds and wise men might have taken. We invite you to join us in walking the Advent star path, noticing, and caring for all of God’s Creation, including yourself, in a different way each day.”
The resource was launched online at the Advent and Christmas Ideas Chats hosted by the Go Team this week and is available to download below. From 1st December the Eco Advent journey will be featured on our website and social media channels with a daily video to watch and share.
