Fomer Churchwarden honoured for his services to his community

Harry Meade from Goathurst, who was awarded the British Empire Medal in the New Years' Honour's list this year, was presented has received his award from the Lord Lieutenant of Somerset at a ceremony in Bath.

Harry’s contributions to village life are vast and varied. He has served on the Parish Council, the Parochial Church Council, and as Churchwarden for more than 20 years. Additionally, he has been the Tower Captain and bell ringer, a Foundation Governor at Enmore School and the Chair of Governors. Since 1974, he has also been a Trustee of the Goathurst Charity.

Brenda Smith, Churchwarden at Goathurst, says, “Harry’s is regarded as a pillar of our community. He is the go-to person for help support and wise counsel and is highly respected for his integrity and discretion. His leadership over the years has included countless twelve-hour days, from setting up events early in the morning to staying late to clear up afterwards.

"His life and service stand as a testament to his Christian faith and the love he has shown everyone. We’re delighted that he has been honoured by His Majesty The King in this way.”
