Schools across the diocese, have been celebrating the Harvest season with services and the giving of gifts to local charities and organisations. Harvest is a time to give thanks for God's gifts, including the food we grow and the beauty of creation. It is also an opportunity to remember those who do not have enough.
At St Adhelm’s Primary School, Shepton Mallet pupils encouraged the school community to pause, reflect and appreciate the significance of Harvest.
Harvest celebrations at Flax Bourton Church of England Primary School were led by the Revd James Harris. The school, together with the local community collected food donations for The Community of the Sisters of the Church in St Paul’s, Bristol.
Meanwhile, Thurlbear Primary School on the outskirts of Taunton collected12 crates of food to donate to the Taunton Foodbank to support those facing food insecurity in their community.
Andy Levett, Go Team Adviser for the Taunton Archdeaconry led the Harvest Festival at Danesfield Middle School, where he talked about the meaning of Thanksgiving, they sang harvest songs and made donations to their local foodbank. As part of the celebration, harvest loaves were prepared by Jess James from the local methodist church.
