Zambia travel bursaries scheme

Thanks to the generosity of the late Miss Coppen, the Diocese of Bath & Wells has been blessed with a legacy specifically for the benefit of the Zambia Link.

The World Mission & Global Justice Governance Group, with the approval of the Diocesan Board of Finance, has determined that a positive way in which part of this legacy can be used is to provide an element of financial support towards the cost of travel to Zambia. This is available for those from a parish/benefice who would like to develop a new link or to strengthen an existing one. School links, new or established, could be supported in the same way. An additional sum is available for any curates who would like to travel to Zambia as part of their formation. A family group could also be offered some support for travel. Help with locating a destination will be offered for those seeking to establish a new link and preparation for travel will be provided.

There will be a limited number of these travel bursaries available each year and applications are invited from anyone interested in travel in 2025. In principle, however, there will be only one bursary available per parish/benefice or school. As the bursary will not cover the entire cost of travel, the expectation is that additional support will be provided by the sending church or school. Applications will be reviewed and are not guaranteed to be accepted. There is an expectation that as far as is possible, this will lead to the development of long-term, sustainable link relationships or the renewal of existing links.

The deadline for applications for travel in 2025 is 31st December 2024, with successful applicants notified by 31st January 2025.
