A new full-time chaplain has been been appointed to serve at the Hinkley Point C, construction site in Bridgwater. Revd Paul Owen, whose post is funded y HPC, was licensed in a service which took place on site.

“The first two conversations that I heard with the chaplain as we arrived on site were about how, when and where staff could gather to pray and about how you cope amidst personal grief.  Surrounding these was the constant hum of good-humoured banter, of the kind that you only see when everyone trusts each other.” Mike Haslam Bath and Wells Chaplaincy Development Adviser

Mike and Simon Hill, Archdeacon of Taunton were at Hinkley Point C in Bridgwater, to celebrate the beginning of the ministry of Revd Paul Owen, the second full-time chaplain at Hinkley Point C and to license him.
The two full-time chaplains who are paid by HPC, work alongside an amazing team of 6 volunteer Associate Chaplains.

Paul has been a parish priest, an ambulance chaplain and recently set up the chaplaincy to the North Somerset Courts in Weston-super-Mare.  He says of his new ministry at Hinkley.

“I am delighted to have been invited to join the amazing HPC team. It is a real privilege to live for Jesus and share my faith in practical ways on this huge construction site, offering a faith-shaped contribution to this vital Net Zero project. I’ve had a really warm welcome already, and look forward to getting to know and support people in their many and varied of roles.”

There are around 12,000 workers on site at Hinkley each day, and that number is still growing.  The chaplaincy team is there to be prayerfully present with them, to listen, care, pray and bless.
