Making a pilgrimage to Wells Cathedral

On Sunday 21 July a group of pilgrims from the Benefice of Ilminster and Whitelackington made the journey to Wells Cathedral. It was a wonderful opportunity to share in the Cathedral’s worship. The group arrived for the 10.30am Eucharist and left after Evensong.

For those who are often busy at their home churches it was a chance simply to enjoy worshipping together in the Cathedral. There was also time for fellowship with one another over a picnic lunch and to find out more about the history and architecture of the Cathedral on a guided tour. The group was made extremely welcome by everyone at the Cathedral and came home full of enthusiasm to plan next year’s visit.

Speaking about the visit The Dean, the Very Rev’d Toby Wright, said, "As the mother church of the diocese, it is always a great joy to welcome people from across the diocese to their Cathedral.  We are always delighted to hear from people who’d like to come and explore this wonderful historic space of faith and beauty.  Do get in touch with us."

The day was particularly poignant for one member of the group, Ruth Taylor, as she was able to see the seat her late husband Nick used to sit in when he was Prebendary of Dultingcote.

The Cathedral would be delighted to welcome more church groups for parish pilgrimages, so if you’re interested simply get in touch you can find the contact details on the Wells Cathedral website.
