#NewRevs 2023 Louise Southgate

Louise was born and raised in rural South Western Ontario, in Canada. Being raised in a very strong Christian family, she was always aware of God’s loving presence and felt her faith was nurtured within the Baptist Sunday School and Church which she attended weekly.

In her teenage years Louise felt the Baptist camping programme was a very formative experience, as it was at this time that she felt she began to make a commitment to follow Christ. Louise says that was the first time she felt a God calling her but it was some time before she acted on the call, “I have always had this sense that God was calling me, and that at some point, I would enter Christian service, as an ordained person; however, it’s been a long journey. Many years ago, my mother gave me a Bible verse that has been with me each step of the journey: ‘Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and he will make your paths straight (Proverbs 3:5-6).”

Louise has spent most of her working life in education, where she taught Religious Education. She also worked in private business and as a self-supporting minister. After her ordination Louise will continue her current part-time role as a Work Coach within the Civil Service. “In all my work, I have always felt that I am doing ‘God’s Work’, as I seek to help and enable individuals and families. I am delighted to become the Assistant Curate in my home benefice of Dulverton, Brushford, Brompton Regis with Withiel Florey, Skilgate and Upton. I look forward to serving God and the people of this rural benefice, as we journey together and grow into the people God created us to be.”
