Haywood Village residents donned the costumes of their favourite characters to help raise funds for charity. The unusual ‘treasure hunt’ was organised by Pioneer Minister Fiona Mayne, who leads Haywood Village Church.
The village came alive with a colourful array of characters from superheroes to classic fairytale figures. Each character had a codeword which the participants had to collect. The first step was to find the character, the second was to get the code from them. Everyone entered into the event with enthusiasm and together they helped raise £127.20 for Ataxia UK a charity which supports people with Ataxia, a rare condition that affects balance and coordination.
Fiona, who played the part of Daphne joined the rest of the Scooby-Doo gang in the scooby van. Not only were the gang on hand to share the secret codes with villagers, after the event the drove the van along the seafront and happily posed for selfies with those out enjoying the sunshine.
Fiona said the day was a wonderful way not only to raise money in support of a relative of a church member who suffers from the condition but also brought the village together in a fun and entertaining way. “It was a great chance to get out and about in Weston and to take the church out of the building and engage with lots of people. We’re also delighted we were able to raise funds and awareness for Ataxia UK at the same time.”
