Pupils at Chilthorne Domer Church School have created an amazing Gratitude Christmas tree for their their school hall. It has been decorated with ‘baubles’ that each child has designed and decorated. On the back of each decoration is the name of someone who that person is grateful for - we’re calling it our Gratitude Tree.
The school were gifted the tree from Mole Valley Farmers in Yeovil. Each year they donated trees to local schools and ask them to decorate them. They then display a photo of each of the decorated trees in store and customers vote for their favourite.
The school decided to buy each child a wooden decoration and asked them to decorate however they wished. On the back they were asked to write someone they were grateful for. These decorations are on the tree and will go home at the end of the term so that they can go on trees at home.
Head Teacher, Nichola Chesterton said, “One pupil has leukaemia and her and her brother are currently learning from home to protect her whilst she has her chemotherapy. Both the children we sent a bauble and they were decorated, sent back and are now on the tree. So, it’s a very inclusive tree! It was my teachers that ensured they didn’t miss out. I’m lucky to have such a caring team.”
