Practical ways to improve your energy efficiency

Becoming more energy efficient

The simplest way to reduce your church’s carbon footprint and energy bills is to reduce the amount of energy you are using. Simply having the heating and lighting on for a shorter period of time can go a long way, but we recognise that this isn’t always possible, particularly if your church is in use frequently.

The following energy efficiency measures should be considered by your church:

  • Replacing your lightbulbs with LED bulbs
  • Buying appliances that have a high efficiency rating
  • Set your heating and lighting with timers
  • Keep track of your energy use with a smart meter
  • ‘Heating the person, not the space’
  • Consider electric heating that is 100% efficient
  • Investigate ‘zoning’ your heating and lighting

Chuch of England has a huge range of energy efficiency measures available in a handy guide.
