On 25 May 2018 a new EU regulation, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), came into force. GDPR strengthens the legislation on data protection and supersedes the Data Protection Act.
The Regulation sets out two key objectives:
- Protection of the fundamental rights and freedoms of individual persons, in particular, the protection of personal data
- Protection of the principle of free movement of personal data within the EU
The Bath and Wells Diocesan Board of Finance (DBF) is a company limited by guarantee and a registered charity. We have reviewed our data, and have published the following Privacy Notices, which you can download below:

These notices set out what data we hold, the purposes for we hold it, and the legal basis for doing so.
Generally we hold data to enable us to support the work of the Church of England in this Diocese. To do this we need to be able to contact clergy, office holders (eg churchwardens), schools and others across the Diocese. We therefore have a “legitimate interest” in holding your data. Where there are other reasons for holding data these are referred to in the Privacy Notices.
We have also published a Data Protection Policy and a Data Subject Access Request Policy, which set out your rights as a data subject.
