School Leaders and Parish Partners Conference 2025
This exciting conference brings together School Leaders and Parish Partners from across the Diocese of Bath and Wells. We will be exploring how as communities we can bring about real long-lasting change in relation to racial justice. Our Guest Speakers are.

Please note: this course is mandatory for all newly appointed foundation representatives in a school based governing body. We use the term governors as a generic term, your trust or school may use another term
This training session is for those governing in a school based governing body. It is suitable for anyone involved in governance at that level whether academy or maintained.
The course covers the importance of good governance in any school, focusing on key governor activities. It will also cover key areas that are unique in a church school. This session will provide participants with practical knowledge they can apply to their setting.
Topics covered in this session include:
• An introduction to the Diocese and support available for foundation governors
• An introduction to the core functions of governance – what this looks like in practice
• Why governors are an important part of the education landscape and why their role is a strategic one
• The importance of asking challenging questions
• What Governor monitoring is and why it is important
• A brief introduction to the following areas in context of governance: SIAMS; vision and ethos; the Church of England Vision for Education; collective worship and RE
• To deepen your understanding of the core role of governance in a church school
• To live out your school vision and values in your governing body
• To develop confidence in your role within your own school
• To go away with practical ways of embedding your trust or school vision
• To enhance your knowledge and understanding of all matters SIAMS
• Monitoring your school’s readiness for SIAMS

SIAMS for Schools
SIAMS is the Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools. This is also known as a Section 48 inspection. This session is for headteachers, RE leaders, Collective Worship leads, governors and those who lead on the Christian character of a church school or trust. In this session we will explore the new 2023 SIAMS Framework.
We will cover what the new Framework looks like: the Inspection Structure; the importance of Christian vision; the six Inspection Questions; the judgments; self-evaluations; and the keeping of evidence.

Church School Governance for Renewing Governors
This session is designed to provide a refresher for experienced foundation representatives in maintained and academy schools. It is a compulsory module for renewing foundation governors. This session will cover a brief update on the team and any recent new initiatives, answering any questions foundation governors may have. There will be updates and discussions on a range of subjects relevant to the foundation governor, e.g. SIAMs, governor monitoring, environment, recruiting governors and building diverse boards.

Foundation Governor Forums
Our termly governor forum is aimed at all those serving as governors in our church schools and has been designed with a view to providing attendees with the opportunity to network, share best practice and to hear about any hot topics. Each forum will have a theme, often with a guest speaker, as well as time planned in for that valuable networking opportunity.

Theologically Rooted Christian Vision
SIAMS 2023 asks about your school’s ‘theologically rooted Christian vision’.
This workshop session will support your school to reflect on your theologically rooted Christian vision. We will explore how to ensure your vision is contextually appropriate, how the biblical rooting is at the heart of the approach, and how this impacts on the lived experience of the adults and children you serve.

Collective Worship: Guidance, Planning and resources
This Collective Worship training is for governors, clergy and staff who are involved in leading, developing, and monitoring collective worship in their schools. SIAMS Forum
This is an opportunity to share experiences, anxieties and helpful tips on preparing for SIAMS with colleagues. At this forum there will be opportunity to discuss questions about SIAMS related matters, including self-evaluation; share experiences, helpful tips and best practice; have space to explore and discuss the challenges of the SIAMS inspection; and discuss the impact of the changes and developments to the SIAMS inspection process.
