More than 60 people joined a Silent Vigil for Peace held in Parade Gardens, Bath. They were joined by Mohammed Saddiq, Lord-Lieutenant of Somerset and Dine Romero, the Mayor of Bath
The vigil was organised by Revd Narinder Tegally, Interfaith Adviser for Bath and Wells in partnership with the Bath Interfaith Group and The Ammerdown Centre
The vigil was offered to everyone as an opportunity to come together, to pause, reflect and stand in solidarity with the parts of the world where there is conflict, injustice, and unrest. Narinder said, “The vigil did not seek to be a political rally, but was simply a gathering in unity, love, grace, and compassion.”
Those taking part were invited to bring with them an LED candle or a real candle in a jar to symbolise a light in the darkness, hope, and peace.
Revd Narinder said, “There weren't any speeches, there were no address, no readings, or prayers – it was just a simple gathering in silence with an opportunity to wish each other, peace in our preferred language. It concluded with the message 'May Peace Prevail On Earth', which focuses on a mutual desire for peace whatever our differences and celebrates our common humanity. Afterwards there were many good conversations between the people who had come along.”
The vigil also marked the end of Interfaith Week, which is an opportunity to understand andl listen to everyone's story of faith.
