The Church of England has announced today (12 October) that it is to provide £15 million for dioceses to help churches struggling to pay energy costs.
Commenting on the announcement, Bishop Michael says, “I am delighted that the Church of England is going to be sharing an Energy Costs Grant with dioceses for us to pass on to Parochial Church Councils (PCCs) to cover the increased cost of heating and lighting church buildings this winter. We will ensure all our churches receive a share of the funding we receive as soon as possible.
“A small proportion will be made available to help parishes that are supporting those in their communities who are badly affected by the rising energy costs by opening their churches to be Warm Spaces, or similar initiatives.”
Details of how to apply for the additional funding for churches offering Warm Spaces will be shared as soon as possible.
